 2003 - 2008 Second hand books emerged as my material during the -womb of time- period. The re-making of books served a new purpose, I could focus on -the inside- (concepts) rather than on -the outside- (material appearance). The books provided a new dimension and with the turning of the pages, I could add the fact of progression and retrospection. I borrow elements like text and images to create new work. I play with the nature of appropriation adding "a personal touch" letting layers interfere with each other. One can see that the new is situated on top of the previous. the result is multifaced. These Books advocate the interpretation of nature by looking at order and chaos, focussing on mixtures, mismatches, serendipity and reproduction. The theme "Marvellous Works" refers to "the College of the Six Days´ Works" presented by Francis Bacon in his fable "New Atlantis" 1626, marking the beginning of modern science and technology. BOOK OF EVENTS Het nieuwe is een eindeloze hergroepering van het oude. Mijn werk laat zich lezen als een mengsel van idee en vorm, beeld, tekst, kleur. Het balanceert tussen chaos en orde, het is een re-mix van rommel en esthetiek. Ik gebruikt verf, lijm en inkt als bind- en afdekmiddel om fysische en mentale processen inzichtelijk te maken. Door het naast elkaar plaatsen van verzamelde fragmenten orden ik gedachten over het bewustzijn, het bestaan en de maatschappij.  XII. BOOK OF HOURS |
